Election Day

Election day comes around every year and this just so happens to be the first year that I am actually old enough to VOTE. I found myself wanting to vote just for the sake of it but then I quickly realized that I don't even know who's running and what they're running for. I remember my mom pressuring me to register to vote as soon as I turned 18 but it just always slipped my mind. It's crazy how I always used to pressure my mom to go out and vote every year but the first year I am of age to vote I completely go against what I've been telling my own mother for years. I now kind of understand why celebrities and people with a larger voice than the average person is always putting out the message of motivation to the youth to go out and vote when election day comes around. I felt the want to vote but not knowing enough information made me not want to make a poor decision in who I vote for. The gift of being an American citizen  was instilled in my mind from young from immigrant parents but I find myself and many others taking it for granted. The lack of interests in politics and who says their going to make greater change in our country or state does not always interests me. With all of that being said it makes me wonder if it does not interests me that how how many other young adults feel the same. Election day to me has always just been that time of year when corny commercials are bashing other candidates or being "sponsored" by our current president. Maybe next year I'll wear my "I VOTED" sticker proudly.
